Johannes F. la Cour

Pindstrup Mosebrug A/S was founded in the village of Pindstrup, Denmark, by entrepreneur Johannes F. la Cour in 1905. During the first decades the company was involved in various activities, one of which was the cutting of peat blocks for heating. Peat was also sold as livestock litter.

Brand identification

The Pindstrup logo is designed by a la Cour family member and is still in use today. It becomes a symbol of quality and tradition.

Innovation in horticulture

There is a shift from peat for heating to peat as a growing medium for plants. Pindstrup begins developing and exporting peat substrates, focusing on horticulture.

Subsidiary Bulrush Horticulture Ltd. is established in Northern Ireland, this marks the start of Pindstrup's global presence.

Pindstrup’s international growth accelerated with the establishment of its Spanish subsidiary, Pindstrup Mosebrug S.A.E., in 1989.

New factory in Latvia

This was followed by the founding of SIA Pindstrup Latvia in 1998, strengthening operations in the Baltic region. These milestones helped position Pindstrup as a major supplier across Europe.

Opening of the Forest Gold wood fibre processing plant in Latvia and the launch of Forest Gold, a sustainable wood fibre substrate.

Acquisition of Carolina Soil do Brasil, expanding Pindstrup’s activities in South America. With this milestone, Pindstrup continues to strengthen its position as a global leader in substrates.

Acquisition of Compaqpeat

Pindstrup acquires Compaqpeat as of 1 October 2025, strengthening its position in key growth markets and increasing production capacity with three additional factories in Latvia. Compaqpeat continues as both a brand and a company, now supported by Pindstrup’s global expertise.
